Zlatan Ibrahimovic has extended his contract with AC Milan by one year, keeping him with the team until he turns 41.
The striker from Sweden, who will turn 41 in October, helped Milan defeat rival Inter to win the Serie A title last year with eight league goals.
He underwent knee surgery in May, and the recovery time was eight months.
At the conclusion of the season, Ibrahimovic admitted that the pain had kept him from sleeping most of the previous six months.
In 2020, the former striker for Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain joined AC Milan again and contributed to their first league championship in 11 years.
Ibrahimovic joined Milan on loan from Barcelona and scored 14 league goals in 29 games to help the team win the Scudetto the last time they won it in 2011.
At the end of the 2011–12 season, he signed a permanent contract but left for Paris St. Germain.
There are other outfield players in their 40s playing in Europe’s top leagues besides Sweden’s all-time leading scorer, who has 62 goals in 121 international games.
