Even though Wonder Woman 3 was given another go two years ago, it appears that it will not be occurring.

The Hollywood Reporter claims that Patty Jenkins and writer Geoff Johns recently gave Warner Bros. the WW3 movie treatment. Jenkins, who directed Monster and the previous two Wonder Woman films, allegedly received the news that the movie would not go ahead. James Gunn and Peter Safran, who were recently chosen to lead DC Studios, as well as WB officials are said to have given her the information.

The movie is “considered dead in its current incarnation,” according to THR, since studio executives don’t think WW3 would fit in with the brand-new plans for DC Entertainment, which are still in the works. While Wonder Woman may still have a role inside the DCEU, the magazine cautions that “no decision has been made about next steps.”

Jenkins’ first Wonder Woman film debuted in theaters in 2017 and brought in more than $817 million worldwide. The 2020 follow-up Wonder Woman 1984 had simultaneous theatrical and HBO Max premieres and ended in grossing $169 million globally. Days after the release of WW84, the people gave the threequel its blessing. “As fans around the world continue to embrace Diana Prince, driving the strong opening weekend performance of Wonder Woman 1984, we are excited to be able to continue her story with our real-life Wonder Women—Gal and Patty—who will return to wrap up the long-planned theatrical trilogy,” former WB president Toby Emmerich said at the time.

According to sources now cited by THR, the studio will save tens of millions of dollars by canceling the third part because Gal Gadot was set to receive $20M for the movie.
