Women’s Football Team Chases Down And Assaults Referee For Not Rewarding Penalty

A women’s football team from the Democratic Republic of the Congo got into trouble after assaulting a referee for failing to call a penalty.

The event happened during a recent match between the female football clubs DC Motema Pembe and Mazembehas in Lubumbashi, Democratic Republic of the Congo. When a referee declined to award DC Motema Pembe a penalty, they were down 5-1 in the game.

Social media users have posted video of the events that followed the referee’s choice, in which DC Motema Pembe players attack the official in protest at his failure to award a penalty.

The short clip starts with the referee sprinting across the field in an effort to evade the DC Motema Pembe players. The referee is confronted by the herd of women after seeking refuge in a tent by the side of the field. Many of them attacked the official with punches and kicks.
