A woman is accused of using Instagram to search down a lookalike before fatally stabbing the lookalike in an effort to fake her own death.

Officials in Germany recently described the unusual case, according to a story from NBC News on Tuesday. The case first made headlines after a person was found inside a parked car in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, last August after having been fatally stabbed. The identity of the body, which was initially thought to be that of 23-year-old Sharaban K, was swiftly questioned after an examination. The victim, however, was Khadidja O, a 23-year-old, according to the Guardian.

In a press release this week, the Bavarian police confirmed that the alleged perpetrator and his accomplice had both been detained since last August. According to the news release, local authorities “now assume that the suspect wanted to go into hiding due to family problems” and intended to do so by pretending to be dead. Currently, both individuals are being investigated for possible murder, and various investigations are claimed to be continuing.

Although it is claimed that this woman was killed, local police have charged Sharaban K with using many aliases in an effort to find several possible lookalikes in the days preceding the purported murder of Khadidja O.

The story has gained international attention recently, particularly from American tabloid websites and other sources. At this time, more information on the case’s status is not available to the public
