A Turkish social media influencer has been prosecuted in her country for positing “joke” photos during her time in Amsterdam’s popular Sex Museum.
23-year-old Merve Taskin posted pictures of sex toys she bought at the museum when she visited the attraction in a birthday trip to the Dutch capital last year.
Sharing obscene content is considered a crime in Turkey as a few months after the trip, she was arrested. According to the BBC, she has now been ordered to face obscenity charges in court.
Turkish law principles are that if anyone shares obscene material, they could face a jail sentence for up to three years or be fined.
“My purpose was to make jokes,” Taskin, a prominent Instagram personality in Turkey with almost 600,000 followers, told the BBC.
When visiting Amsterdam along with two friends for her 22nd birthday, Taskin shared photos of merchandise on sale, including penis-shaped pasta and a “sexy bottle opener”.
