Tottenham out of Europa Conference League after UEFA accepted a forfeit for the game against Rennes

Tottenham Hotspur have been ruled out of the Europa Conference League by UEFA after they were unable to play their last group-stage match owing to a COVID-19 outbreak within the club.

There is no chance of the match being rescheduled, as the Conference League play-off draw has already taken place, and there is no open date on the calendar for Spurs to play Rennes, whom they were supposed to play on December 9.

Rennes was enraged that they had traveled to London just to find that the match had been postponed one night before the match.

“This lack of fair play is all the more flagrant as Tottenham confirmed by email early this afternoon that the match would be held before informing us of their intention not to play after we landed at London City airport,” Rennes said in a statement.

Therefore, Tottenham end the group stage in third spot, behind group leaders and runners-up Vitesse. The result of this is that Vitesse will now play against Rapid Wien on February 17 and 24.
