Timberwolves forward Taurean Prince arrested at Miami airport on charge involving ‘Dangerous Drugs’

Taurean Prince, a forward for the Minnesota Timberwolves, was arrested on drug-related charges on Thursday night at Miami International Airport.

The 28-year-old former NBA lottery pick was detained, according to TMZ Sports, because he had an outstanding warrant from an alleged drug-related incident in Texas.

The warrant was issued in Tarrant County, Texas, back in May after police stopped Prince for driving a car with an invalid registration, according to ABC’s Saint Paul affiliate KTSP. Police then conducted a car search of Prince’s, finding weapons, a vape pen containing THC oil, and a “canister of marijuana.” Texas has laws against the use of THC.

Although it was determined that Prince is the registered owner of the handguns, police claim the weapon charge is due to a Texas law stating a person is “not allowed to be in possession of a gun while also possessing illegal substances.”

“Under Texas law, it’s illegal to carry a gun while engaging in a criminal offense. Because suspected illegal substances were found in his vehicle, we arrested Mr. Prince for Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon and Possession of Marijuana,” the Arlington Police Department told KTSP.

Prince was given a $2,500 bond on Friday morning and has since been booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
