‘They Call Me Magic’ Trailer Reveals NBA Legend Magic Johnson’s Four-Part Docuseries

 

 

The first trailer for the four-part docuseries, which covers basketball legend Earvin “Magic” Johnson’s life and career, was released on Saturday by the streaming service. The series premiered this weekend at the SXSW Film Festival in Austin, Texas.

 

Rick Famuyiwa directed the series, which provides NBA fans a look into Johnson’s playing career, philanthropy, and efforts to change HIV conversations. Magic Johnson, Cookie Johnson, EJ Johnson, Larry Bird, LL Cool J, Snoop Dogg, Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Jordan, Shaquille O’Neil, President Barack Obama, Fred Stabley Jr., Dwayne Wade, Jerry West, and Michael Wilbon all make cameos.

 

“If you don’t make a difference in the Black community, that doesn’t matter that you win a championship,” Johnson says in the 2-minute clip.

 

The series, produced by XTR and New Slate Ventures, arrives on April 22.
