The Weeknd’s Upcoming HBO Series, ‘The Idol,’ Releases New Teaser Trailer

The Weeknd and Lily-Rose Depp’s upcoming drama series The Idol gets a brand-new teaser from HBO.

The six-episode drama is “set against the backdrop of the music industry and centers on a self-help guru and leader of a modern-day cult who develops a complicated relationship with an up-and-coming pop idol,” according to HBO’s official synopsis. It was co-created by Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye, Reza Fahim, and Euphoria creator Sam Levinson.

The Idol, which was written by The Weeknd, Levinson, Fahim, and Joe Epstein, also stars Troye Sivan, Jennie Kim, Debby Ryan, Rachel Sennott, Steve Zissis, Hari Nef, and Juliebeth Gonzalez in supporting roles.

A number of other celebrities are scheduled to appear, including Melanie Liburd, Tunde Adebimpe, Elizabeth Berkley, Nico Hiraga, Anne Heche, Maya Eshet, Tyson Ritter, Kate Lyn Sheil, Liz Caribel Sierra, and Finley Rose Slater.

“‘The Idol’s’ creative team continues to build, refine, and evolve their vision for the show and they have aligned on a new creative direction,” HBO told Variety in April. “The production will be adjusting its cast and crew accordingly to best serve this new approach to the series. We look forward to sharing more information soon.”
