In a terrible firework accident that saw him lose his sight, suffering burns to his face and damage to his eyes, Omar Elabdellaoui has the ball back at his feet.
The Norwegian vice-captain had a firework explode in his hand as the right-back was rushed to hospital on New Year’s Eve where he temporarily lost vision. Thankfully, Omar was conscious and in a stable condition.
The Turkish football world shared their condolences for the Galatasaray ace with rivals Fenerbahce, Besiktas and Trabzonspor sending their best wishes to the 29-year-old.

Just two months later, Omar has recovered and is going through individual training sessions which shows an elite level of determination and spirit having endured a traumatic event.
It’s unknown as to when the former Manchester City player will make an appearance for club or country again but it’s fantastic to see Omar doing what he loves doing best in playing football.
