The price of Dogecoin has risen after Elon Musk said that Tesla will accept it as a form of payment for merch

Elon Musk revealed tonight that Dogecoin will now be accepted as payment for some Tesla merchandise, causing a stir in the crypto community.

Dogecoin’s price was up more than 15% early Friday, according to CNBC, before surrendering some of its gains. Dogecoin was trading at $0.18 soon after 7:00 a.m. ET, according to the business news source.

The Giga Texas Belt Buckle, the Cyberwhistle (which is supposed to match the form and general aesthetic of the Cybertruck), and the Cyberquad for Kids are among the Tesla-related items available to purchase via Dogecoin at the time of this writing.

Musk sparked comparable gains for Dogecoin in December after previewing the new payment option, according to a second MarketWatch article published on Friday. At the time, SpaceX founder Elon Musk and Tesla CEO Elon Musk stated the team will “see how it works” after making some items accessible through cryptocurrency.
