The Last of Us, the most recent drama from HBO, has been renewed for a second season.

The news follows the early January premiere of the program, which, according to The Hollywood Reporter, ranked as the second-most-watched series debut on the premium channel in the previous ten years with a total audience of 22 million viewers. Based on a PlayStation video game, The Last of Us stars Pedro Pascal as Joel, a smuggler, and Bella Ramsey as Ellie, a teen who wanders with Joel in a post-apocalyptic world.

“I’m humbled, honored, and frankly overwhelmed that so many people have tuned in and connected with our retelling of Joel and Ellie’s journey,” executive producer Neil Druckmann said, per the outlet. “The collaboration … exceeded my already high expectations. Now we have the absolute pleasure of being able to do it again with season two!”

Before Sunday’s airing of the third episode, the series was renewed. Screenwriter for The Last of Us Craig Mazin expressed his gratitude to the “millions of people who have joined us on this journey.”
