The Oscar nominees for 2022 are now available. The Power of the Dog, as predicted, takes the lead with 12 nominations, followed by Dune and Belfast, with 10 and seven nominations, respectively.
The Academy also gave some recognition to more mainstream hits like Spider-Man: No Way Home and No Time to Die. Nicole Kidman, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Olivia Colman all received nominations in the acting categories.
The Power of the Dog and Belfast are the frontrunners in this year’s Best Picture category, which now stands at ten. Netflix has entered the shortlist in other categories with Adam McKay’s Don’t Look Up, which has been nominated for a number of awards despite mixed reviews. Dune is also on the list, albeit Denis Villeneuve was notably absent from the Best Director category.
