After the 4-0 defeat against Brentford, Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag canceled a scheduled day off on Sunday.
Ten Hag had planned to give his team the rest of the weekend free because they wouldn’t play again until Liverpool’s visit to Old Trafford on August 22.
However, he had to change his plans because of how Saturday’s defeat was handled.
It is believed that he arrived at Carrington early on Sunday to reflect on the manner of a defeat that drew harsh criticism from both supporters and commentators.
The defeat sparked a dispute between Jamie Redknapp, who thinks the players should shoulder more of the blame, and former United captain Gary Neville, who demanded that the club’s owners publicly explain what went wrong.
