Despite serious CG character issues that caused a three-month delay, Sonic the Hedgehog turned out to be one of the biggest films of 2020. Now, Paramount has released the first trailer for the sequel, which features Idris Elba as Knuckles.
Sonic (Ben Schwartz) and Tails (Colleen O’Shaughnessy) are featured in the trailer. Dr. Robotnik, a.k.a. Eggman (Jim Carrey), is on the lookout for the Chaos Emeralds, a classic Sonic McGuffin. Robotnik, on the other hand, has an Echidna in the form of Knuckles, who flaunts his brute strength and strangely elegant speaking voice. (Elba promised his Knuckles wouldn’t sound sexy, but he’s poshier than ever.)
The original Sonic movie was one of the most popular video game adaptations of all time, so the sequel has a lot riding on it. Thankfully, the sleek trailer suggests that none of the CGI faults that plagued the original film will be repeated. On April 8, 2022, the sequel will be released.
