SOS, the critically praised album by the artist, debuted at No. 1 on Billboard for a ninth week in a row after earning 93,000 equivalent album units, according to the publication. In the previous seven years, no female singer had more chart-topping weeks than she does now.
Taylor Swift’s 1989 spent nine weeks at No. 1 in 2015, making her the most recent female to hold that position. Adele was the last.
While Rihanna’s 2016 number-one album, Anti, entered the top 200 at position No. 3, Paramore’s This Is Why debuted at No. 2 and Rihanna’s performance at the Super Bowl brought Anti, her previous year’s top-charting album, to position No. 3.
In a recent interview with the New York Times, SZA revealed that she struggled initially when creating SOS. “I didn’t even know how to make [the album] cause I didn’t have a purpose,” she said. She also emphasized that a big part of creating her first album was to prove to herself that she could do it. “But now it’s like, I did everything I wanted to do.”
SZA recently collaborated with Lizzo for a guest appearance on the “Special” remix, which she is now performing as part of her first sold-out arena tour.
