The Billboard Women in Music Awards will take place next month, and the publication revealed on Friday that SZA will receive the Woman of the Year Award.
SZA’s five-year streak of genre-defying consistency, which culminated in last year’s critically acclaimed SOS album, was cited by Billboard Editorial Director Hannah Karp in a statement distributed via email.
“Since she burst onto the scene in 2017, SZA has defied genres and continually released raw, powerful songs which have landed her music on the Billboard charts,” Karp said. “The release of her latest album, SOS has solidified her as a distinct force in contemporary R&B, and catapulted her into superstardom. We can’t wait to honor her as Woman of the Year.”
Quinta Brunson will serve as the ceremony’s host, and tickets are currently on sale. It will take place on March 1 at the YouTube Theater in Inglewood. The Visionary Award recipient Lana Del Rey, the Honda’s Rising Star Award winner Doechii, the Powerhouse Award winner Latto, the Icon Award winner Ivy Queen, the Rulebreaker Award winner Lainey Wilson, and TWICE are among the 2023 recipients (the Breakthrough Award).
In receiving the Woman of the Year award, SZA joins a distinguished group of previous winners that also includes Madonna, Cardi B, Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, and others.
