At the weekend, Netflix made a formal announcement of Squid Game’s return, confirming that the global smash will indeed return for a second season, giving fans even more to obsess over.
The streamer shared a message from series creator Hwang Dong-hyuk, who stated (among other things) that viewers can expect to meet the boyfriend of Young-hee, a.k.a. The Doll, in addition to a brief teaser video displaying an awfully familiar eye.
“It took 12 years to bring the first season of Squid Game to life last year,” the writer and director said. “But it took 12 days for Squid Game to become the most popular Netflix series ever.”
Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) and the Front Man, who oversees the to-the-death competitions, have been confirmed to return.
While no precise date for Season 2’s premiere has been announced, executive producer Kim Ji-yeon stated that the writing process has begun in a message to the Netflix-owned Tudum site. This time around, the primary objective is to make the series “even more joyful to a global audience.”
