Spotify are joining the list of rivals looking to compete against audio-only app Clubhouse with the launch of Greenroom.
As has been seen with Twitter Spaces and Facebook’s Live Audio Rooms, Spotify are ready to join the party with the app now available for iOS and Android devices across 135 global markets.
With Spotify’s ownership of Betty Labs, the producers of Locker Room, a live audio app with the topic around sports, the music streaming giants are continuing to expand their library.
Users will now be offered “range of sports, music, and cultural programming, as well as a host of interactive features that enable creators to connect with audiences in real time.”

One of the unique tools that Hypebeast reports on is “gems” which can be used when a host or speaking says something that you like. Your profile icon will include a set amount of gifted gems when speaking in a room, with your own Greenroom profile including your total gem count.
Users can either login through their current Spotify account or sign up for a free Greenroom profile to gain access to this new platform. There will then be a phase of identifying your interests to ensure that you can consume the content that you want to hear in an accessible way.
