After sacking Ralph Hasenhuttl, Southampton has officially announced the appointment of Nathan Jones as their new manager.
Welshman Jones, 49, has signed a three-and-a-half-year contract and left Championship team Luton Town to fill the position.
Hasenhuttl, who has been in charge for almost four years, was fired on Monday following Newcastle’s 4-1 victory on Sunday.
“I’m really proud to be given this opportunity,” said Jones.
“I know a lot about the club from back in the days of The Dell, to coming here to St Mary’s, and it’s a wonderful football club.”
Jones sat in the crowd on Wednesday as Saints defeated Sheffield Wednesday on penalties in the third round of the Carabao Cup.
On Saturday, he will take charge of his first away game against Liverpool.
With Southampton occupying the 18th spot in the Premier League, Hasenhuttl was fired following a run of just one victory in nine games.
Jones’ second stint at Luton finishes with the club ninth in the Championship after signing a five-year contract with the Hatters in January.
