Sadio Mane, a star for Senegal, is expected to miss the World Cup after suffering an injury while playing for Bayern Munich. He will be out for a few weeks, according to reports.
The former Liverpool forward was taken off of Tuesday night’s 6-1 triumph over Werder Bremen after just 20 minutes, though Bayern initially minimised the extent of the problem.
However, Mane had a scan on Wednesday, and according to the French publication L’Equipe, the tendon injury will prevent him from playing for a few weeks, keeping him out of the World Cup.
On Monday, November 21, less than two weeks from now, Senegal will play the Netherlands in their opening match of the tournament. They will then play Qatar and Ecuador before the month is through.
Mane’s absence has not yet been formally confirmed, but Senegal manager Aliou Cisse is not likely to select him when he names his team for the tournament in Qatar on Friday.
After the game on Tuesday, Bayern manager Julian Nagelsmann first downplayed worries that Mane wouldn’t make the World Cup, saying: ‘I can’t say anything for sure, he took a blow to the head of his shin. ‘But I hope that nothing is wrong. I can’t say anything for sure yet.’
Nahhhh this is brutal.
