In the upcoming comedy Paint, Owen Wilson plays a painter who becomes well-known due to a TV program in which he spends the entire episode creating a brand-new piece of art. However, he is not Bob Ross. Wilson’s character is eerily similar to the popular television personality, right down to the perm and dulcet tones, yet once more, these two are not the same.
Wilson plays the fictional Carl Nargle, who is “a womanizing, fame-obsessed man behind his gentle onscreen persona” according to IndieWire. Things change, though, when the studio that produces Carl’s show chooses to work with Ambrosia (Ciara Renée), a younger performer, in response to a decline in ratings.
The cast of Paint includes Lucy Freyer, Stephen Root, Luisa Strus, and Michaela Watkins. Brit McAdams wrote and directed the film. On April 7, it opens in theaters.
