The son of Barcelona legend Ronaldinho has joined the team in the same direction as his father.

The Catalan giants have now acquired Joao de Assis Moreira, also known as Joao Mendes, who was on trial since January.

Before his contract with Brazilian club Cruzerio was terminated, the 17-year-old played there.

Although he is a striker rather than an offensive midfielder, he is said to have some of the same precise talents that his father was well known for.

On his son’s move, Ronaldinho said via Marca: “Yes he is coming now.

“I’m never out of the club. Barcelona is part of life. Wherever I go I take Barcelona with me.

“With the arrival of my son at Barca I’ll be more present than ever.”

Mendes will now train at the famous La Masia academy, which has produced players like Lionel Messi, Andres Iniesta, Gavi, and Xavi.

Currently, Ronaldinho serves as a club ambassador.

After a remarkable five seasons at the Nou Camp, the 42-year-old has earned legendary status there.
