Romelu Lukaku apologizes to Chelsea fans in a video

After statements he made in an interview with Sky Italia last week generated an outcry among Chelsea fans, media, and supporters, Romelu Lukaku has issued an apology to Chelsea fans, as well as manager Thomas Tuchel and his Blues teammates.

Lukaku said in the interview, which was taped three weeks ago but released just before the new year, that he was dissatisfied with Tuchel’s methods and that he wished to return to Inter Milan because of his ties with the Italian club, which he helped win the league title last season.

While his comments were less inflammatory than they looked in some early translations, they nonetheless made it apparent that Lukaku did not agree with the management and that the techniques deployed were not a great match for his skill set.

Lukaku has now been reintroduced to the team, first in training ahead of the EFL Cup semifinal match against Tottenham on Wednesday, and then in the starting lineup for that match on Wednesday. Kai Havertz and Mason Mount will assist Lukaku in attack, while Hakim Ziyech will play wingback and Christian Pulisic will be on the bench.
