On Thursday night, Jose Mourinho’s Roma was humiliated 6-1 by Norwegian minnows Bodoe/Glimt, maybe the lowest moment in the Portuguese coach’s long career.
The Serie A side entered the Europa Conference League match as big favorites, but they were embarrassed by the Scandinavian hosts, who blasted them away in the second half.
It came in the aftermath of the Italian club’s director Tiago Pinto laying blame on the media for “trying to create confrontation” between himself and the Portuguese boss.
Mourinho’s team has now lost three of their past five matches in all competitions, including painful defeats to city rivals Lazio and Juventus in the Italian top flight.
In the first half, striker Erik Botheim and midfielder Patrick Berg had given Bodoe/Glimt a two-goal lead, but Carles Perez pulled one back for Roma, who were anticipated to mount a fightback.
Instead, the Italian squad crumbled in the second half, with Botheim completing his hat-trick with two more goals, while Amahl Pellegrino and Ola Solbakken added to the agony.
