After Justin Roiland, the co-creator of Rick and Morty, was charged with felony domestic abuse, Adult Swim ended their association with him.
“Adult Swim has ended its association with Justin Roiland,” said Mairie Moore, Supervisor of Communications at Adult Swim/Cartoon Network/Boomerang.
The show will continue at Adult Swim, and Roiland’s Rick and Morty voices will be changed, according to Variety. Dan Harmon, the co-creator, is anticipated to take over.
According to Variety, Roiland was accused of “one felony count of domestic battery with corporal injury and one felony count of false imprisonment by menace, violence, fraud, and/or deceit.” Roiland made a pre-trial appearance in court earlier this month.
In 2018, Adult Swim renewed Rick and Morty for a further 70 episodes, with a 100-episode run anticipated. The sixth season of the show, which had 61 episodes air to date, concluded in December 2022.
The animated Hulu series Solar Opposites, which was given a fifth season renewal last November, is also directed by Roiland. About the future of the show, Hulu has not yet released a statement.
