Timo Werner, a forward for Chelsea who left the team two years ago for the Premier League, is anticipated to be signed by RB Leipzig on a permanent basis.
Werner is expected to return in a deal considered to be worth roughly £25 million, thus Chelsea will incur a loss despite meeting the German international’s £45 million release clause in 2020.
On Monday, the 26-year-old was seen traveling to Leipzig for a checkup.
Werner helped Chelsea win the Champions League in 2021 with 23 goals in 89 games throughout all competitions.
When the Blues signed him in the summer of 2020, he was one of the most sought-after attackers in Europe, having also drawn interest from Liverpool, Bayern Munich, and Atletico Madrid.
During his first stint with Leipzig, he scored 95 goals in 159 appearances across all competitions after moving there from Stuttgart in 2016.
Werner, however, struggled to maintain that goal-scoring form in the English Premier League, scoring just 10 goals in two seasons.
He did, however, contribute significantly to Chelsea’s run to glory in Europe during his debut season by scoring in the second leg of the semi-final against Real Madrid.
Chelsea and Leipzig first discussed Werner returning to the team on a loan basis; however, that conversation has since changed to a permanent one.
