Rapper Young Thug arrested on gang-related charges, Gunna also indicted

According to court records acquired by CNN, Grammy-winning rapper Young Thug is charged in a 56-count gang indictment.

Young Thug, as Jeffery Lamar Williams, was detained at his Atlanta residence on Monday, according to authorities. He was arrested and charged with conspiracy to violate the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO) and involvement in criminal street gang activities in Fulton County.

According to the indictment, Williams along with 27 associates of the enterprise Young Slime Life, “conspired to associate together and with others for the common purposes of illegally obtaining money and property through a pattern of racketeering activity and conducting and participating in the enterprise through a pattern of racketeering activity.”

Gunna, whose true name is Sergio Kitchens, is one of Williams’ accused associates included in the indictment. According to the indictment, Kitchens has also been charged with RICO conspiracy. Kitchens was not in police custody as of Tuesday morning, according to authorities.
Prosecutors said Williams and two other defendants created the group YSL in late 2012 and claimed to have ties to the national Bloods gang, according to the indictment.

Other suspected members of the YSL business are charged with murder, aggravated assault with a dangerous weapon, and armed robbery in the indictment. The alleged wrongdoings extend back to 2013.

“It does not matter what your notoriety is, what your fame is. If you come to Fulton County, Georgia and you commit crimes and certainly if those crimes are in furtherance of a street gang then you are going to become a target and a focus of this district attorney’s office,” Willis said.

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis said the removal of these 28 offenders from the streets will help keep the community secure at a press conference on Tuesday.
