Ken Block, a 55-year-old YouTube sensation and American motorsport hero, passed away in a Utah snowmobile accident.
He was a successful rally driver who competed in series like Rally America and Global Rallycross. Later in life, he gained widespread recognition for his “Gymkhana” YouTube video series.
He received over two million subscribers for the 10-part series in which he displayed dangerous racing feats.
Block was a founding partner of the skateboarding apparel company DC Shoes.
Another apparel business he owned, Hoonigan Industries, posted a message on Instagram on Monday to reveal the death of its founder.
“Ken was a visionary, a pioneer and an icon. And most importantly, a father and husband. He will be incredibly missed.”
According to the local sheriff’s office, Block was riding a snowmobile up a steep slope in Wasatch County, Utah, when the vehicle overturned and fell on top of him.
Due to his injuries, he was declared dead at the site.
A day after US actor Jeremy Renner suffered critical wounds while driving a snow plough to clear snow from outside his Nevada home, the actor’s passing was announced.
