Prince Charles has confirmed that he won’t be attending Princess Diana’s statue unveiling because “he doesn’t want to be a distraction”.
That’s according to Entertainment Tonight via Hollywood Unlocked, who state that Charles has naturally avoided participating in events that commemorate or pay tribute to his former wife, whom he was married to from 1981 to 1996.
Both Prince William and Prince Harry had given the green light for the statue to go ahead back in 2017 on the 20th anniversary of their mother’s death to “recognize her positive impact in the United Kingdom and around the world.” The unveiling will get underway today, June 1st, which would mark Diana’s 60th birthday.
It will also mark the first time that Prince Harry has reunited with his family since Prince Phillip’s funeral. His wife Meghan Markle won’t be attending having recently gave birth to their baby girl.
