Peaky Blinders, the award-winning period gangster tale, has been on hiatus since its sixth season ended little over a year ago. The BBC released the first teaser for Season 6 today, giving the series’ devoted worldwide following a New Year’s gift. The premiere date has not been set, however it has been hinted for early 2022.
Tommy Shelby, played by Cillian Murphy, comes returning in search of a way to put the namesake Birmingham-based dynasty to rest. Tom Hardy, Paul Anderson, Finn Cole, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Sophie Rundle are among the returning cast members. Stephen Graham also makes an appearance. Helen McCrory, a co-star, died in April of this year. In the clip published today, the fate of her Aunt Polly is not revealed.
Creator and writer Steven Knight previously said of the sixth season, “Peaky is back and with a bang. After the enforced production delay due to the Covid pandemic, we find the family in extreme jeopardy and the stakes have never been higher. We believe this will be the best series of all and are sure that our amazing fans will love it. While the TV series will be coming to an end, the story will continue in another form.”
Knight will pen the sixth season of Peaky Blinders, while Anthony Byrne, who directed season five to critical acclaim, will return as director, and Nick Goding will produce. Steven Knight, Jamie Glazebrook, David Mason, Anthony Byrne, and Cillian Murphy serve as executive producers.
