Paul Pogba’s brother Mathias charged by French police over £11m blackmail plot

In connection with an alleged scheme to demand money from his brother Paul, Mathias Pogba has been charged and detained.

According to judicial sources, four other people are currently being formally investigated for extortion and criminal association.

Yassine Bouzrou, Mathias Pogba’s attorney, asserted that his client is innocent.

He told French broadcaster BFMTV: “We are going to challenge this decision.”

The 29-year-old Juventus midfielder was the subject of a video that surfaced online last month and promised “revelations,” according to Mathias Pogba, 32.

Following Paul’s claims that he was the victim of extortion and threats from an organized gang, French prosecutors started a judicial inquiry earlier this month. Paul was a former player for Manchester United.

On July 16, he complained to Turin’s prosecutors, stating that he was the target of a 13 million euro (£11.29 million) extortion conspiracy.

Pogba, a World Cup champion with France in 2018, left Manchester United this summer and joined Juventus on a free transfer.

In addition to playing for teams in Europe, Mathias Pogba is a professional footballer who has represented Guinea in matches and has captained Crewe, Wrexham, Crawley, and Partick Thistle.
