Karsten Warholm obliterated the world record in the men’s 400m hurdles on Tuesday at the Olympic Stadium in Tokyo, registering a 45.94 second time.
Warholm, who had set the previous world record of 46.70 in Oslo in July, edged out his closest competitor in American Rai Benjamin, who finished 46.17 with Brazil’s Alison Dos Santos sealing bronze having finished 46.72.
The 25-year-old’s reaction said it all as he ripped his shirt from his chest in what was a superman effort from Warholm, becoming a national hero and a household name in world athletics in the process.
