After being found guilty of killing the rapper and entrepreneur outside of his Crenshaw clothing store in Los Angeles, Eric Holder Jr. received a 60-year sentence.
Nipsey Hussle’s Murderer Receives 60 Years In Prison made its first appearance on Blavity.
The Los Angeles Times writes that following a protracted trial that covered the incident, Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge H. Clay Jacke decided his fate on Wednesday. Holder Jr. was given a 25 years to life term in state prison for killing Hussle and an extra 25 years to life for using a firearm by Judge Jacke. In addition, Holder will spend 10 years in prison for the two other individuals he killed while shooting Hussle.
Aaron Jansen, Holder Jr.’s defense attorney, argued that since Holder Jr.’s deadly shooting of Hussle was seen on camera, the jury should find him guilty of manslaughter rather than murder, according to the Times. After the rapper said there might be “paperwork” on him, implying Holder Jr. may have been a snitch, he also tried to insinuate Holder Jr. was not rational.
Although Holder and Hussle were both members of the Rollin’ 60s set of the Crips, Jansen claimed that accusation “triggered” his client. He added that being labeled a snitch by someone of the rapper’s stature might be fatal.
“This was not just a pleasant conversation between homies who are chopping it up … this was a serious accusation,” Jansen said during his 2022 closing argument. “Mr. Holder Jr. took it serious, as it was. He knows the consequences of being called a snitch in this manner.”
John McKinney, a deputy district attorney, presented a quite different picture. He claimed that because the defendant was a rapper as well, he was “jealous” of Nip’s successful profession. Moreover, McKinney informed the jury that after shooting Hussle, Holder Jr. told Hussle, “You’re through.”
TMZ reports He is in his 30s, Holder Jr. Hence, if he ever leaves, it will be when he is close to 100 years old.
