Nicki Minaj’s husband has accepted a plea deal that would see his punishment for failing to register as a sex offender in California lightened.
According to documents discovered by TMZ, Kenneth Petty accepted to plea guilty on one count of failing to register. Petty will receive a punishment on the low end of the guidelines in return.
The documents state that “the feds note the mandatory minimum sentence is 5 years of supervised release” but the decision will ultimately come down to the judge.
It’s no wonder that Petty agreed to the deal as he could have faced up to 10 years in prison with supervised release over a lifetime.
Minaj’s husband was first charged in March 2020, having moved to California with the artist the year prior. It’s law that those acquitted register as a sex offender in the state after a 1995 conviction in New York for first-degree attempted rape.
Petty was also required to get the court’s permission to be present for the birth of his and Minaj’s first child last year.
