Ligue 1’s headline match between Nice and Marseille was abandoned as fights broke out among supporters, players and managers.
It started when Marseille’s Dimitri Payet walked over to take a corner with a section of Nice fans throwing items at him, including a plastic bottle which the midfielder threw back at the supporters.
Fans then started jumping the barricades and came onto the pitch in their numbers with security trying to control the situation.
As players started heading towards the dugout there were still scuffles including Marseille manager Jorge Sampaoli having to be held back by staff.
After the debacle, Nice players came back onto the pitch ready to restart the game with their team 1-0 up with around 15 minutes of normal time remaining. However, Marseille didn’t come back on, leading for the match to be abandoned.
