New Manchester City signing Julian Alvarez scores double hat-trick for River Plate

When Erling Haaland joins Manchester City this summer, all eyes will be on him, but Julian Alvarez showed on Wednesday night why it would be stupid to ignore him.

In January, City agreed a ยฃ14.1 million agreement with Argentine club River Plate to sign the 22-year-old striker.

Alvarez, an Argentina international with seven caps, signed a five-and-a-half-year contract with the Premier League champions but remained at River until the end of the season.

Alvarez, widely considered as one of South America’s most talented young players, made history on Wednesday by becoming the first player in the 121-year history of River Plate to score six goals in a single game.

In the Copa Libertadores โ€” South America’s version of the Champions League โ€“ Alvarez scored a remarkable double hat-trick against Alianza Lima.

Before halftime, the skilled forward had scored his first goal of the night and had completed his first hat-trick.

After the half, he repeated the feat, scoring three more goals in the 54th, 57th, and 83rd minutes to seal an 8-1 triumph for River.
