‘Insecure’ star Sujata Day is developing and writing a new American Pie movie.
The Hollywood Reporter reported on Thursday that Day, whose directing debut Definition Please was released back in 2020, was currently “working” on a new installment of the franchise. Apart from THR’s statement that the Universal 1440 Entertainment project is focused on a “new take” for the series, no additional information has been made public.
Day named American Pie as one of her all-time favorite “raunchy comedies” on Instagram and expressed her excitement for the opportunity.
The most recent installment in the core American Pie franchise, American Reunion, which centred on a high school reunion, reunited the original cast a decade ago.
“It’s definitely wild that people that were born after we made it are now enjoying it,” Eddie Kaye Thomas, who played Paul Finch in the original franchise, said at the time. “I did not think that would happen.”
The newly planned American Pie cinematic universe expander has not yet been confirmed to feature any original cast members, but more information should be available soon.
