Netflix has renewed ‘Arcane’ for a second season

Netflix and Riot Games have announced that a second season of “Arcane,” the streaming service’s popular “League of Legends”-based animated series, is on the way. On Saturday evening, the two companies made the news at the conclusion of a fan gathering.

“We’re beyond happy about the positive response to ‘Arcane’s’ first season and are working hard with the creative wizards at Riot and [French animation studio] Fortiche to deliver our second installment,” series co-creators Christian Linke and Alex Yee said in a statement.

While specifics regarding the second season of the show are still few, Hailee Steinfeld, Ella Purnell, and Katie Leung have all been confirmed to reprise their roles as Vi, Jinx, and Caitlyn Kiramman, respectively. Linke, together with Marc Merrill, Brandon Beck, Jane Chung, and Thomas Vu, will produce the second season of “Arcane.” There is no word on when the film will be released.

On November 6, the first season of “Arcane” premiered on Netflix. The series was split into three parts, each with three episodes. Riot Games has not announced any other projects, but the animated series, which mixes hand-drawn and computer-generated graphic techniques, is the company’s first venture into cinema and television production.

“Arcane” is set in the setting of “League of Legends,” and serves as a precursor to the massively successful huge online combat arena game initially released by Riot Games in 2009. “League” has become one of the most popular esports titles. Beck and Merrill launched Riot Games, which is now run by CEO Nicolo Laurent. The firm employs about 2,500 people worldwide.
