Montreal university offers entire course about the rapper Kanye West

Ye remains a hot topic, with stories about his album releases, style, and personal life dominating the news. Professor Yassin Alsalman is taking matters into his own hands, launching a course at Concordia University in Montreal, Canada, to delve further into Kanye West’s mind.

The professor announced on Instagram that he will be conducting a one-of-a-kind course regarding anything Kanye. The course, titled Kanye vs. Ye: Genius by Design, will look at all of Ye’s efforts throughout the years in order to inspire discussion on creativity in design, media, and music. Alsalman, who is himself an artist, wants to open up discussions about the controversial artist with his pupils to address topics of “community, creativity, responsibility, accountability, fame and mental health, dreams and nightmares – and, most importantly, self-actualisation.”

This is not the first time Alsalman has led a musician-focused class. He wrote, “I want to bring something new and fresh to students. An opportunity to bring more amazing guests to the University and to discuss the world through the lens of one of the most influential artists of our generation.” Professor Yassin Alsalman is known by his stage name, Narcy and is set to drop his first single “IRAQAFELLA” on March 18.
