Mick Schumacher signs for Mercedes

Mick Schumacher committed to serving as a Mercedes reserve driver in 2023. The organization made the announcement in a statement on Thursday. The German driver effectively joins the same Formula One team as his father after severing ties with Haas and the Ferrari Academy. While the W14, with which the Brackley-based team aims to repeat its victory, is still being developed, Schumacher’s role will be concentrated on working with the simulator.

โ€œI am thrilled to be part of the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team as their reserve driver for 2023, and I am committed to give it my all to contribute to their performance in this very competitive and professional environment. I take this as a new start, and I am just excited and grateful to Toto [Wolff, Mercedes team principal and CEO] and everybody involved for putting their trust in me. F1 is such a fascinating world, and you never stop learning, so I look forward to absorbing more knowledge and putting in all my efforts for the benefit of the Mercedes team,โ€ said Schumacher, who finds a place in F1 after leaving Haas .

Mick joins the team after competing for the Haas F1 Team for the previous two years. He participated in 43 races, and his eighth-place result at the 2022 British Grand Prix earned him his first points. He finished sixth at the 2022 Austrian Grand Prix the following week, which was his highest career result.
