The CEO of Meta this week announced the beginning of a subscription service called “Meta Verified” that will enable customers to obtain verified badges to fight off imposters.
Today, Zuckerberg made the official announcement of the new function on his Instagram Story. “Good morning! New product announcement: this week we’re starting to roll out Meta Verified – a subscription service that lets you verify your account with a government ID, get a blue badge, get extra impersonation protection against accounts claiming to be you, and get direct access to customer support.”
For web users, the monthly memberships will cost $11.99, and for iOS users, $14.99. Accounts with confirmed badges already applied won’t be charged, according to Meta. Moreover, users must be older than 18 to access.
This week, Meta Verified will be made available in Australia and New Zealand, and it will soon be available in additional nations.
“We are evolving the meaning of the blue badge to focus on authenticity so we can expand verification access to more people. We will display follower count in more places so people can distinguish which accounts are notable public figures among accounts that share the same name,” a Meta spokesperson stated.
