Mercedes has revealed the W13, its Formula One vehicle for 2022, with Lewis Hamilton and George Russell set to team together to try to maintain the Silver Arrows’ recent dominance.
This presentation was probably the most anxiously awaited of them all, with speculation rife in recent months over Hamilton’s future in the sport, following the contentious finish to the 2021 season in Abu Dhabi, which deprived him a record-equaling eighth world championship.
Lewis, on the other hand, was there at the unveiling and appeared ready to go for the 2022 campaign, with new teammate George Russell joining him to complete an all-British line-up for the Brackley lads.
It’s a different driver dynamic than the one that has served Mercedes so well since 2017 with Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas, but there’s no reason why this can’t be just as successful, with Lewis having plenty of championships and race-winning experience and George being one of the most talented younger drivers on the grid, with his own victory-winning past in Formula 2 and other formulae.
It has the potential to be the best driver pairing on the grid, and here is the machine they’ll be using to try to make that happen, with Mercedes electing to return to silver after a few of years in all black to express their support for the BLM movement:
