McDonald’s starts to accept Bitcoin and Tether in Swiss town

In the Swiss Town of Lugano, the massive global fast-food chain McDonald’s now accepts Bitcoin (BTC) and Tether as payment options. With this initiative, McDonald’s has become a hotspot for crypto adoption in Western Europe.

The story first surfaced when Bitcoin Magazine tweeted a minute-long video of a McDonald’s customer placing an order on a digital kiosk and then using a mobile app to pay for it at a traditional register. Additionally, on the credit cash machine, the Tether (USDT) logo was seen next to the Bitcoin symbol.

The action was taken after the city of Lugano announced that it would now recognize Bitcoin, Tether, and the LVGA token as legal tender in March 2022.

The so-called “Plan B” was also launched by the city after it signed an MoU with Tether Operations Limited. According to this proposal, Tether has established two funds, the first of which is an investment fund for cryptocurrency businesses worth $106 million, or 100 million Swiss francs.

The other one, at about $3 million or 3 million Swiss francs, is intended to promote the use of cryptocurrency by shops and enterprises in Lugano.
