Manchester United reach agreement with Besiktas over Wout Weghorst loan

Weghorst has been filmed arriving at an Istanbul airport ahead of travelling to Manchester

Wout Weghorst, a striker from the Netherlands, will join Manchester United on a season-long loan.

The 30-year-old Burnley forward, who played for Besiktas for the first part of the season, is now traveling to Manchester for a medical before the transfer can be finalized.

His loan at the Turkish club will end after an agreement has been finalized.

In 16 league games with Besiktas, Weghorst led the team with eight goals and four assists.

On January 7, his most recent goal helped Besiktas defeat Kasimpasa 2-1, and after the game, he appeared to wave goodbye to the team’s supporters.

Erik ten Hag, the manager of United, will now be able to sign a fellow Dutchman to meet the squad’s need for a striker.

In the Netherlands’ World Cup quarterfinal match against Argentina last month, Weghorst also scored two late goals for his country.

In the subsequent penalty shootout, which Argentina won, he also scored.

The 30-year-old contributed to Burnley’s £12 million move from Wolfsburg with two goals in 20 appearances, but it wasn’t enough to keep the Clarets from being demoted to the Championship.

If there are no complications, Weghorst might be registered in time to play in the Old Trafford derby matchup against Manchester City on Saturday.
