Manchester United reach £81.3m agreement with Ajax for Antony

Manchester United has confirmed that they and Ajax have agreed to terms for the transfer of Brazilian winger Antony.

The initial fee is 95 million euros ($81.3 million) making this the fourth most expensive signing in Premier League history.

It is dependent upon a medical exam, the conclusion of personal terms, and international clearance.

Antony, 22, played 82 times for Ajax and contributed 24 goals and 22 assists.

He moved to the Dutch champions from Sao Paulo in 2020, playing for them under Erik ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United.

The contract includes potential add-ons worth 5 million euros (£4.27 million), making him United’s second-most expensive signing behind Harry Maguire, who cost the club £80 million.

The club’s record purchase price is still Paul Pogba’s £89 million.

Antony, who played in 11 Champions League games for Ajax and assisted on seven goals, made his international debut for Brazil in October 2021 and has scored twice in nine games.

Thursday’s Premier League match between United and Leicester City will require Antony to travel, but he first needs to get a work permit.
