Manchester United has begun the process of sacking Cristiano Ronaldo from the team following his shocking interview with Piers Morgan.

By terminating Ronaldo’s £500,000 per week contract without giving the Portugal star a single penny of the £16 million he would have earned until the contract’s expiration in June, United have reportedly started the legal process of effectively dismissing him.

Ronaldo’s explosive accusations against the team, the Glazers, manager Erik ten Hag, and his teammates have, in the opinion of United’s attorneys, violated the terms of his contract.

Following many teaser clips since the weekend, the interview was broadcast in two sections on Wednesday and Thursday.

United released a statement on Friday after stating earlier in the week that they would think about their response once all the facts were clear.

It read: ‘Manchester United has this morning initiated appropriate steps in response to Cristiano Ronaldo’s recent media interview. We will not be making further comment until this process reaches its conclusion.’

In reaction to Ronaldo’s allegations, United felt they had to respond in some way, but they would not elaborate on the procedure.

It is believed that it refers to filing a lawsuit to break the contract, though. Ronaldo’s compensation is unlikely to be paid by United since doing so would be viewed as rewarding treachery.

Ronaldo has burned his bridges at Old Trafford, and the Glazers, Richard Arnold, John Murtough, and Ten Hag came to the conclusion that there is no turning back for him at the club.
