Cristiano Ronaldo, the Manchester United star, did not attend his team’s game on Tuesday, only one day after announcing the heartbreaking death of his newborn son. The game proceeded on, and despite the fact that Manchester United was not playing on their home turf, Liverpool fans made sure to pay homage to the son Ronaldo who had died.
“A fan-led minute of applause [would] be held in the seventh minute of the game as a tribute to the Portuguese striker and his partner Georgina,” Manchester United said. In honor of Ronaldo, the supporters of Liverpool’s Anfield stadium made a touching tribute, even shouting their iconic chant “You’ll Never Walk Alone.”
Normally, both clubs’ supporters would be in rivalry with one another, but they came together in a beautiful tribute for Ronaldo and his family at this difficult time.
