Gremio received a sensational first-half hat-trick from Luis Suarez, who had a fantastic debut with the Brazilian club.

Suarez, who turns 36 the following week, only needed 38 minutes to net his first three goals for his new team.

Suarez’s brilliance enabled Gremio to defeat Sao Luiz 4-1 and win the Recopa Gaucha Super Cup.

The Uruguayan international, one of the finest attackers of his time, left Atletico Madrid last year and has since returned to South America.

He first went back to his old team, Nacional, where he made 16 appearances and scored eight goals.

Suarez signed a brief contract in order to rest up for the World Cup in Qatar, but he was unable to lead his beloved country out of Group H.
