Louis van Gaal has emerged as the front runner to become the next Netherlands manager in what will be his third spell of managing the Dutch national team.
After the shock exit in the round of 16 at Euro 2020 in a 2-0 defeat to Czech Republic, the KNVB announced Frank de Boer’s resignation.
According to AD, van Gaal is expected to confirm his decision on becoming the head coach either today or on Saturday and the KNVB are confident he will accept the offer.
Van Gaal’s initial tenure as Netherlands manager didn’t go according to plan in a poor 2002 World Cup qualification campaign as the Oranje would be absent from the tournament for the first time since 1986.
The former Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Barcelona head coach would return as manager of the Dutch national team in 2012. Van Gaal guided his country to a third-place finish at the 2014 World Cup, beating tournament hosts Brazil in the play-off match 3-0.
